Civic and Community Projects
Since its inception in 1952, the Perennial Planters has contributed its energies to Women & Infants Hospital, RISD Museum, Roger Williams Park (Zoo and Botanic Garden), India Point Park, the Providence Children's Museum and others. The Perennial Planters received the Founder's Fund Award in 2000 to support the educational garden for the Providence Children's Museum and in 2021 to help fund the CheerMobile for the What Cheer Flower Farm.
Holiday Baskets
Each December, the Perennial Planters collaborates with local school children to create festive holiday baskets filled with greens donated by members, bows and baubles. The completed baskets are donated to local nursing homes and community organizations. Each child gets to make a smaller basket to take home or give as a gift to friends and family. It is a joyful and creative event that our members look forward to every year.
Author Talks
In May 2024, the Perennial Planters welcomed environmentalist and best-selling author Doug Tallamy to Providence as part of the H.A. Miller Endowed Lecture Series. "The Nature of Oaks" was an illuminating and inspirational talk on the life of oak trees from month to month, season to season. This talk was free and open to the public.
